Proposed House Bill Seeks to Expand DOD’s SkillBridge Program

Experienced transportation business executive Albert “Al” Hanley III serves as Division President of Transforce Group, a transportation company based in Alexandria, Virginia. As Division President, Albert Hanley is responsible for the creation and implementation of the company’s short-term and long-term strategic plans. Al Hanley III, who also serves as leader of Troops Into Transportation, supports a proposed bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that seeks to expand the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge Program.

A bi-partisan bill known as the Transition for Success Act was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in July 2020. If enacted, it would expand the current SkillBridge Program to include members of the National Guard and of the Reserve as they transition to civilian life, by providing them with job training and placement assistance within 180 days of leaving the armed forces.

The current SkillBridge Program has been successful in helping veterans get jobs that match their skills. However, proponents of the bill believe it is important to provide the same opportunities to the members of the National Guard and of the Reserve who undergo the same kind of training and are deployed to the same missions as their active duty peers.
