The Colonel Michael Endres Award

Established transportation industry professional Albert “Al” Hanley III has provided executive leadership at the Transforce Group since 2018, where he serves as division president. Over the course of his career, Al Hanley III has been recognized with a number of honors and awards, including being named a finalist for the Colonel Michael Endres Award.

The Colonel Michael Endres Award recognizes individual excellence in veteran employment. Specifically, the award acknowledges those who go above and beyond the call of duty to positively impact employment opportunities for veterans and their families. The award is open to individuals working in the private or public sector, and is administered by Hiring our Heroes, a nonprofit organization that has connected the military community with employment since 2011.

Mr. Hanley’s contributions to veterans employment efforts stemmed from the Troops into Transportation initiative, a program that provides job training and CDL certifications to service members and veterans. A job-first program, Troops into Transportation focuses on applicants that have been pre-hired by partner carriers. Once hired, students begin the initiative’s certification program and supplemental training offerings.

For additional information on Troops into Transportation, which operates under the CDL School and partner carriers, visit www.troops2transport.com.

How Long Does It Take To Learn to Sail?

Albert “Al” Hanley III is the division president at Transforce Group in Miami, Florida. One of Al Hanley III's passions is sailing.

You can become well-versed in the basics of sailing in an afternoon and comfortably sail a boat alone after a few days if you find an experienced sailor to teach you the required skills. It is recommended that you get a sailing certificate from the American Sailing Association or the United States Sailing Association for safety reasons. Acquiring a certificate from a sailing school near you or while on a sailing holiday can take you less than 10 days. To get the certificate, you’ll do a mixture of theory and practical lessons.

By the end of the lessons, the skills you’ll have learned include how to steer the sailboat accurately and tell wind conditions, which is very important because it will determine how fast your boat moves and the direction it takes.

If you plan to become a master sailor, commonly referred to as a Yachtmaster, you have to attain more than a certificate in sailing and sail for several years to gain the necessary experience need to become a Yachtmaster.
